New "Fat Chance" Print
My first loves, in the game fish realm, anyway, were fat bluegills in my grandparents' Central Florida lake -- and the big bass that fed upon them. My old cane pole brought many panfish to shore, but for many years bigger bass eluded me.
In the late 80s my family relocated to SW Florida, and the hunt for largemouth bass began in earnest. For many years I pursued them in neighborhood ponds -- often those located in private, gated communities (but that's another story). From there I branched out to more remote lakes and canals in the Florida Everglades. Florida is a mecca for bass anglers, and I reveled in my good fortune.
To this day bass are a favorite target. Their accessibility and aggressive streaks still appeal to me. They're a straightforward, blue-collar, no bullshit species, and a day spent chasing them is a day well spent. This new "Fat Chance" print captures the memory of two portly 9 lbers caught on back-to-back casts in an undisclosed location a number of years back -- an idyllic spot my granddad first took me to back before I had facial hair. It has since been ruined in the name of progress. Nothing gold can stay.
